Demand has remained weak in early season but recovers for late varieties.
Contrasts between producing regions, contrasts in demand, the cherry season 2013 is atypical.
Poor weather conditions delayed the start of the season. Violent winds in the south of France and persistence of cool and wet weather also have caused damages to the fruits. The offer is heterogeneous in quality and demand remained weak long after the beginning of the season. On the contrary, late varieties have benefited from best weather and a demand which has recovered.
The Department of Statistics and Planning (SSP) estimates that production in 2013 will total 40,100 tons, up by 32% compared to the poor harvest in 2012, but below 7% compraed to the five-year average.
