Italian berry producer joins the Social Plastic project by Carton Pack

For more than 30 years, Garden Frutta has been focusing on strawberries and berries production and trading, as well as offering a wide range of exotic products from all over the globe, thanks to the progressive and widespread extension of its international commercial network.

Every year huge quantities of plastics are abandoned in the seas leaving a terrifying imprint on marine fauna; in particular, the phenomenon intensifies in emerging countries of Southeast Asia, where sufficient segments of separate collection and waste disposal have not yet been implemented.

This is why Garden Frutta is the first Italian company to join the Social Plastic® project by Carton Pack S. and Plastic Bank Corp. 

One of the Garden Frutta’s priorities is social responsibility. They constantly search for innovations in the area of environmental and social sustainability, especially concerning packaging; increasingly one of the controversial points in this sector. 

The progressive change of Garden Frutta towards a more conscious use of materials started just over a year ago with the 250g and 500g formats, first involving some strawberry growers in Trentino, then in Calabria with the Mon Amour selection. Today this project is extended to almost all growers in Verona.

Thanks to the triumph of the initiative, after having surpassed organizational difficulties, Social Plastic is gradually being included in all strawberry production in Trentino. In regard with the berry production, only the packaging with the most particular formats have been currently converted: 170g, 250g, and 300g.

Social Plastic is a joint project and as such it will always work better if various companies participate in it. It is a virtuous choice that looks at the environment and communities in emerging countries, limiting the production of virgin plastics and reducing the pollution on our planet.

Plastic Bank is the only organization in the world that organized the collection of plastic waste, transforming it into a value for the benefit of the most disadvantaged populations.
