New production hub begins international supply as organised chilli exports move beyond traditional sourcing areas.
Punjab has completed its first export shipment of green chillies to Dubai from a newly established production cluster, marking the start of commercial overseas supply from the project.
The consignment weighed 15 tonnes and was dispatched from the cluster developed under the state’s horticulture expansion programme. Authorities described the shipment as the first export movement from the site, created to organise growers into a structured supply base capable of meeting export requirements.
According to the Department of Horticulture, the cluster model is designed to improve product consistency, handling practices and coordination between farmers and exporters. The initiative forms part of broader efforts to open additional markets for horticultural produce and strengthen income opportunities for participating growers.
Officials indicated that further shipments are expected as production and logistics capacity within the cluster continue to scale.
