Cold treatment protocols supported large-scale grape shipments to key export markets during the 2025/2026 campaign.
Peru shipped more than 706,000 tons of table grapes during the 2025/2026 campaign, relying on quarantine cold treatment to meet phytosanitary requirements and maintain access to key export markets.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), exports reached 706,379 tons and were delivered to 53 international markets. A central factor behind this performance was the widespread use of cold treatment technology, particularly for shipments to the United States, where strict phytosanitary protocols apply.
During the campaign, the National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA) supervised 33,280 cold treatments in packing facilities, enabling the export of 685,575 tons of grapes. An additional 20,804 tons were dispatched through refrigerated vessels, mainly from the regions of Piura and Ica.
Cold treatment involves keeping fruit at controlled low temperatures for a defined period to eliminate fruit fly larvae without affecting product quality. The process can be carried out either at origin or during transport, helping exporters comply with quarantine standards while preserving the condition of the fruit on arrival.
