In the first month of 2024, Colombia achieved an impressive increase in Hass avocado exports, reaching 13,983 tonnes. This marks a significant growth of 53% compared to January of the previous year.
This progress was highlighted by the Corporation of Hass Avocado Producers and Exporters of Colombia (Corpohass), which pointed to the Hass avocado as the protagonist during the Super Bowl in the United States.
According to data compiled by DIAN and cited by the association, Colombia exported 13,983 tonnes of Hass avocado in January 2024, surpassing the 9,162 tonnes shipped during the same period in 2023, representing a 53% jump between the two months.
Corpohass attributes this growth to several factors, among them, the abundant production of the main season, which coincides with these months. It also highlights the increase in demand from the United States, especially due to the Super Bowl.
For this event, Colombia shipped around 1,500 tonnes of its Hass avocado, marking an increase of 56% compared to the previous year, and positioning itself as a strong competitor to Mexico, the leader in the supply of this fruit to the North American market.
The association also mentions that this success in January is due to a better use of the harvests and the optimisation of know-how in the sector.
