The Australian government has announced that negotiations on the Australia-United Arab Emirates Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement have been completed. The agreement removes tariffs on around 99% of Australian products, and is expected to generate total savings of AUD 135 million (USD 91 million) in the first year. For the agriculture and food sector, savings are estimated at AUD 50 million (USD 34 million) per year.
In 2023, Australia exported to the UAE 33,000 tonnes of carrots, around 4,200 tonnes of onions and around 2,000 tonnes of potatoes, worth AUD 34 million (USD 23 million).
This comprehensive economic partnership agreement should guarantee a new era of cooperation and opportunities, according to the Emirates' Minister of Commerce. Investment in minerals on the one hand, and tariff reductions on Australian mining and agricultural exports (meat, dairy products, oilseeds, fruit and vegetables, etc.) on the other.
