Various topics addressed by the tomato contact group (France, Italy, Spain)

The tomato contact group brings together sector representatives from the 3 countries (France, Italy, Spain) as well as government officials from these countries. 

 

Today, the tomato contact group (France, Italy, Spain) is meeting in Almería, Spain.

 

Various topics will be discussed, including analyses of the previous season and the market situation in the 3 countries. The phytosanitary situation of tomato cultivation in each country will also be discussed, as well as the tools available to combat pests, in the context of the reduction in the use of plant protection products at Community level.

 

Another topic is the growing volume of tomatoes from Morocco on the EU market. According to Eurostat data processed by FEPEX, this volume has risen from 325,856 tonnes in 2013 to 491,908 tonnes in 2023. This represents a 51% increase and a 61.27% share of total EU tomato imports from third countries.
