In 2021, raspberry consumption in Spain showed a +14.1% increase compared to the previous year, in particular between the months of January and September, according to the report of the Observatory of Prices and Markets of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development of the Junta de Andalucía.
According to the document, the popularity of this red berry also grew in other European countries.
The increase is due to the fact that producers in the province of Huelva (the main berry producing area in Spain) choose varieties that bloom twice a year, in order to achieve a higher production volume at the beginning of the campaign.
The positive weather conditions in autumn have favored production, a higher volume than usual has been harvested.
The average price was 5 euros per kilo, the lowest of the seasons recorded in the Price Observatory.
The average price at origin since the 2015/16 season has fluctuated between € 5.84 and € 5.24 per kilo. In the last 2020/21 campaign the average price was € 5.75 per kilo.
