The Galician potato harvesting campaign, under the Indicación Xeográfica Protexida (IXP), has officially begun, inaugurating a new cycle for producers in the region, who cultivate more than 85% of the hectares registered in the IXP. The entity expressed optimism for the season, highlighting the strong demand and the forecast of stable prices, without major influences from international competition.
A total production of 25 million kilos is expected on the 600 hectares registered. Although spring rains delayed planting, leading to a slight decrease in the quantity of potatoes compared to last year, the quality of the product has been considered "exceptional".
The campaign has started with the harvesting of the Kennebec variety, which has a short cycle, while the Agria variety, which has a longer cycle, will be harvested gradually.
