Avocado is the third most important product of Peru's agricultural exports, behind coffee and grapes.
MINAGRI, the Ministry of Agriculture of Peru announced that the country has exported 247,000 tons of avocados in 2017 worth 580 million USD. Peru is positioned as the 2nd largest supplier of avocados behind Mexico.
According to MINAGRI, domestic production exceeded 470 000 tonnes of avocados in 2017, an increase of 3.4% compared to 2016. Exports totaled 247 000 tonnes of avocados and 580 million USD of revenue, an increase of in volume (27%) and in value (46%) compared to 2016.
The main destinations of Peruvian avocados were the Netherlands, the United States, Spain, England, China and Chile. These 6 countries received 95% of exported volumes.
Avocado is the third most important product of Peru's agricultural exports, behind coffee and grapes. Peru is the world's second largest exporter of avocados, as in 2016 behind Mexico.
