Ukraine, 4th world producer of cherries, is going to begin its first exports towards European Union.
Ukraine is to start exporting sweet cherries from South of the country to the EU, following the signing of a contract between the Black Sea Fruit Company and German buyers to supply sweet cherries from South of Ukraine.
German buyers are planning to import 100 tonnes in 2010 as a test run. If the experience proves positive, they are planning to import much more sweet cherries in the future.
Ukraine is the 4th world producer of cherries, after Turkey, Iran and United States. At present, majority of cherries imported in Germany result from Turkey.
