In Uruguay, the citrus export season has started well, with volumes of about 30,000 tonnes shipped between January and early June.
Urugay produces an average of 280,000 to 300,000 tons of citrus a year. For this first stage of exports, more than 30,000 tons of fruit were shipped, 60% to the United States, 20% to the European Union and the rest to Russia, Brazil, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates .
The United States is the No. 1 market. They are more favorable on the prices and pay better than the European Union according to the Uruguayan professionals. Looking ahead, the Chinese market that opened in 2017 promises great prospects. Other markets should open such as the Philippines, Indonesia, India and Vietnam.
