Production and export of bananas grew in the Dominican Republic, which is now the leader for organic bananas in the region.
Banana production and export continue to grow in the Dominican Republic.
The banana sector is vital for the economy and the Dominican Republic is the leading producer of organic bananas, ranking among the largest banana producers in the Caribbean.
Banana exports recorded $650 million over eight years said the Minister
of Agriculture. This figure was reached by exporting 1.798 million tons of bananas to mainly the U.S. and Europe. The ministry said the banana sector generates 25,000 direct jobs and sustains 300,000 people in the Dominican Republic, a country of 10 million inhabitants.
