China remains the largest importer of Philippine pineapples.
The Philippines' pineapple industry experienced strong growth in 2024, with export earnings reaching $787.12 million, a 7.5% increase from the previous year. Fresh and dried pineapples accounted for more than half of this revenue, bringing in $428.74 million, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
China remained the largest importer of Philippine pineapples, purchasing $183.43 million worth — an 18% increase compared to 2023. In total, the Philippines exported 675,540 tons of fresh and dried pineapples, with China receiving 42% of the shipments, approximately 282,460 tons.
Industry experts expect even higher exports in 2025, especially with the growing demand for premium MD2 pineapples. These pineapples are highly sought after for their long shelf life, year-round availability, and excellent price-to-quality ratio. The Philippines has been China’s top supplier for 20 years, consistently providing 90% of its annual pineapple imports.
On the global stage, the Philippines remains the second-largest pineapple exporter, behind Costa Rica. Experts predict that pineapples could become the country’s next billion-dollar export, as demand continues to rise. According to projections from the OECD and FAO, by 2033, one in every four pineapples grown in the Philippines will be exported.
