Exports of organic produce rises

In the first quarter, exports of organic products from Peru reached 46 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 48.3% over the same period last year.
The organization Promperu that unveiled the figures reports that the trend is continuing. The demand for organic products is mainly driven by Europe and Asia.
Organic bananas is the product most in demand. It represents 37% of sales and 17 million U.S. dollars, up 17.9%, bound for the United States, Belgium and Germany. This is followed by organic coffee with 35% of sales, worth U.S. $ 16 million. Coffee recorded an increase of 119.4% with the United States and Germany the main markets.
