A strong storm from Aragon has caused significant damage in Lleida, affecting 1,410 hectares of pear, peach and nectarine crops. One in every twenty hectares dedicated to these crops in the region has been lost. The Climate Action Department identified l'Horta de Lleida as the most affected area, with losses of 60-80% in 460 hectares.
The most severely damaged areas include Soses, Torres de Segre, Alcarràs and Sudanell, with losses of 70-100%. The storm, which brought hail up to the size of quail eggs and strong winds, was centered in the Segrià region.
The mayor of Lleida, Fèlix Larrosa, and the subdelegate of the Government, José Crespín, have visited the affected areas and are coordinating efforts with Agroseguro to begin the assessments and manage aid for the affected farmers.
