Companies from Greece, Italy, France and Spain have formed a consortium to manage the production and sale of two types of yellow-fleshed kiwifruit named Kikokà.
Kikokà was born at the end of 2023 from a 15-year project called the Yellow Kiwi Project, developed by the University of Udine and New Kiwi Plant.
The consortium was officially launched at an event in Turin, Italy, this week, bringing together 11 partners with 1,550 hectares dedicated to the crop. They plan to expand with an additional 200 hectares by 2024.
The consortium hopes to grow with the inclusion of new global members. Six new selections from the Yellow Kiwifruit Project are currently under study, including an orange variety with mango flavour that will be patented later this year.
