Due to adverse weather conditions, UK cauliflower production is 1 month behind the usual schedule. To meet demand, UK retailers have resorted to importing produce from France or Spain.
According to the British trade, the cauliflower season has started badly with unfavourable weather conditions. The plants did not flower at the right time, i.e. at the end of October and beginning of November. Instead, they only bloomed in December, one month behind the usual schedule.
To meet the high demand, usually seen during the festive season, British retailers resorted to imports from France and Spain.
The month's delay in flowering of the plants has had an impact on the crop. A bumper crop of British cauliflowers is now available. The crop is so abundant that several supermarket chains are selling these British cauliflowers at a reduced price.
