Downwards forecast for the production of melons
FJ
In the region of Andalusia, the melon production is excpected to decline
The latest estimates predict a reduction in the production of melons. Areas of melons in the province of Almería decreased by approximately 22%, passing from 2,780 hectares for the season 2012/2013 to 2,140 hectares this season.
In addition, the area that uses the waters of the Adra river for irrigation, is facing a problem. The high salt content in the water of the river causes calcification process in the piping, and these considerably reduce the mass flow rate. This decrease in water intake will reduce harvests and lower productivity.
