The Malaysian Department of Agriculture has officially notified the Peruvian Agricultural Health Service (Senasa) of the phytosanitary requirements, marking a milestone by allowing the immediate entry of Peruvian Hass avocado into the Asian country. This achievement is the result of more than 10 years of negotiations and close collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture, Senasa, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Peruvian Embassy in Malaysia.
Avocado imports from this country have experienced a 98% increase in the last 5 years, reaching $15 million in 2022. Australia, Kenya and New Zealand are the main avocado suppliers to Malaysia.
According to the Association of Exporters (Adex), Peruvian avocado exports increased by 9% between January and September 2023 compared to the same period last year.
