How much fruit supplier saves with RESS ripening energy saving system?
VU | Cold Energy S.r.l.
The RESS ripening energy saving system by Cold Energy is famed for saving over 30% on energy costs, thus reducing levels of CO2 produced for the ripening process.
This unique software is linked to the variable frequency drive (VDF) and a ripening controller, such as Proba or similar ripening processors. It reduces the speed of the fans without any negative impact on the ripening quality.
According to Mr. Massimiliano Castagna, Cold Energy General Director, earlier this year, RESS was installed in one of the facilities of Compagnie Fruitiere in Portugal, a fruit-supplying company.
“Today’s results are significant but require better interpretation. The cost of each box was reduced by -31%, but this is the overall reduction, which considers the room fans and refrigeration compressors, pumps…all the electricity consumption. It is worth highlighting that our system acts on the room fans, and given that the electricity consumption in bi-flow type systems is 65 to 70% for ventilation and the rest for the refrigeration system, this figure is even more significant. Now, if we consider that one ripening room processes 120,000 boxes per year, a reduction of 0.6 kw/h per box, with an average energy price of 0.20 euros per kw/h, means an annual saving per room of 72,000 kWh, equivalent to up to 14,000 euros. Return on investment is expected in 6-7 months. It is a must to install this system in all your rooms, including rooms like Mejuto equipped with huge fans.”, comments Mr. Castagna.
