Ellips makes first impression in blueberry field on North and South American markets

Headquartered in the Netherlands Ellips group is already well established on North American market for many commodities. Met at PMA Fresh Summit in Anaheim, CA, USA, the company shared further plans on developing North and South American markets.

Sam Kastel, Director of small fruit Solutions, explained that this fall Ellips has already installed 6 brand new machines for blueberries and the company sees big potential on this market, as growers and packers need high-tech solutions for blueberries.

"Minimum capacity per lane is 200 kg for blueberries. We can provide a solution to start from 1 lane and then add more lanes, when production will grow," - said Sam. "Grading electronics and software, the algorithms, forward thinking approach for sanitation and cleaning, higher capacity volumes through better efficiency, small footprint compared to our competitors – thanks to these there is a high demand on Ellips equipment".

Maud Bakker explains that The Berry Class is equipped with latest Ellips grading technology: HD+ multispectral camera 3.2 megapixel to take 30 different images of each blueberry. "This results in near-perfect size (submilimiter) and colour separation, highly accurate sorting of defects," - she explains and adds: "Cameras can see spots even on very dark fruits: blueberries, cherries, very dark apples, like Red delicious variety. They see even finger print on the fruit".

Each Elifab and Elisam sorting line is equipped with Ellips Truesort™ software, which can interface seamlessly with pack house management system. With this user friendly software sorting process can be fine tuned to deliver consistent quality and get premium prices for products. "This software is used for over 15 different types of fruit and vegetables such as blueberries, cherries, apples and apricots", - adds Mrs. Bakker.
