In South Africa, vegetable export revenues in 2023 reached 190 million USD. This amount is the lowest in at least 7 years, and represents a variation of -7.77% compared to the 206 million USD achieved in 2022 (Photos: brelyn.co.za).
South Africa is famous for its fruit exports (grapes, citrus fruits, berries, nuts, apples, pears, avocados), but the country also exports a lot of vegetables.
Local media report that, according to data from the WTO (World Trade Organization), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the International Trade Centre, South Africa's vegetable export earnings in 2023 reached 190 million USD.
This is the lowest figure for at least 7 years, and represents a variation of -7.77% compared to the 206 million USD achieved in 2022. It is also USD 17 million below the previous five-year average (USD 207 million).
South African exports include potatoes, tomatoes, onions and carrots, cabbage and lettuce. The main destination markets are other African countries, which account for 69% of total exports, then the EU and the UK, followed by Asia and the Middle East.
