ANECOOP reinforces its commitment to make the Almería region its operational center for tropical fruits with the creation of "EXÓTICOS DEL SUR", the new entity that integrates local producers.
This new commercial company is the final result of a pioneering project begun in Spain in 2010. The first exports of papayas began in 2015 (destinations: United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Italy, Portugal) through logistics and the ANECOOP sales network. To coordinate the initial productions, a platform was established at HORTAMAR, one of the cooperatives in the ANECOOP region.
Papaya is the 3rd tropical fruit most produced in the world after mango and pineapple. So far, Spain contributed 0.1% of the world total because only the Canarias region could produce this fruit. Now in the greenhouses it is possible to reproduce the tropical climate adapted to the fruit and therefore to benefit from a consistent production.
