A significant decrease of 1.8 million kg of pear production named Ercolini Jumilla.
The production of Ercolini variety pears under the denomination of origin Jumilla has dropped sharply.
This year's harvest reached 7.2 million kilos while a normal year sees 9 million kilos harvested. Adverse weather conditions have resulted in the decline in production.
Jumilla is characterized by being white, juicy and with a high sugar content. An early variety, the harvest
begins in late June and early July. Ercolini is firm, which facilitates marketing. Italy usually counts for 40% of the harvest.
Jumilla is located in the region of Murcia. It has 180 member farmers who cultivate 3,000 hectares of all types of pear and a total production of 26 million kg per year.
