Auchan to keep track of plastic crates

RFID chips (Radio Frequency Identification) on crates and a web application for monitoring are the basis of the solution developed by Orange Business Services. The head of fruits and vegetables at Auchan and plastic crate rental companies will be able to see the path of the containers in real time. The application retrieves the information detected by the RFID reading systems chips.

Auchan expects several benefits from this new solution including more security for its handlers with less risk of accidents associated with the handling of wooden crates. Also, it predicts a reduction of crate losses. This could lead to nearly 150 ton of waste saved by reusing plastic containers and a decrease of 30% in greenhouse gas emissions.
