The U.S. Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) organized the first summits on the safety of fresh agricultural foods in Peru, called "1st FDA Summit."
The summits seek to inform about the food safety rules that fresh foods exported to the United States must follow, according to the FSMA Act.
The purpose is to teach Peruvian exporters and farmers the new rules to enter the competitive US market. Peru, being an important supplier of fruits and vegetables to the United States, hosted the event.
The first meeting took place on March 5 at the Senasa Auditorium in Lima, and the next one will be on March 7 at the Windham Costa del Sol hotel in Trujillo. The FDA has worked hand in hand with ADEX and the PROTEC committee of the Lima Chamber of Commerce to organize these summits.
