The recent rains in the Region of Murcia (Spain) have damaged approximately 5,700 hectares of various crops, mainly affecting the north of the region, according to data from the Agrupación Española de Entidades Aseguradoras de los Seguros Agrarios Combinados (Agroseguro). Of these, 3,200 hectares belong to fruit crops such as peaches and nectarines. The rest includes areas of vegetables, vineyards and citrus fruits, among other crops, although to a lesser extent.
In the Vega Media del Segura, especially in Ojós, hail has damaged wooden structures, which could compromise the next fruit tree season, although this year's production has already been harvested.
Nationally, storms since mid-June have affected 65,000 hectares of insured crops. Projected compensation, while valuations are being completed, amounts to 55 million euros, with significant damage in at least 33 provinces, with Albacete and Murcia being the most affected.
