Value of Mexican fruit and vegetable shipments grows +3.5% year-on-year

Mexico's fruit and vegetable exports experienced significant growth in 2023. In terms of value, a year-on-year increase of +3.5% was recorded, reaching a total of $14,692 million. Mexico's fruit and vegetable exports experienced significant growth in 2023. In terms of value, a year-on-year increase of +3.5% was recorded, reaching a total of $14,692 million. In terms of volume, growth was 4%, reaching 10,729,500 tonnes, according to data provided by the Grupo Consultor de Mercados Agrícolas (GCMA).
Exports were led by products such as avocado, with a value of $3,202 million, followed by berries with $2,653 million, tomato with $2,189 million, chilli with $1,101 million, strawberry with $991 million and cucumber with $544 million.
Fruit
Fruit exports from Mexico reached $9,088 million, showing an increase of +1.9% y-o-y, and a volume of 4,060,300 tonnes, up +3%.
Fruits that experienced an increase in the volume exported were, in order of importance: walnuts (+27.3%), guava (+19.8%), avocado (+15.3%), berries (+7.2%), mango (+2.3%) and grapefruit (+1.6%).
Simultaneously, an increase in the sales value of guava (+51.8%), papaya (+14.1%), strawberry and lemon (+7.4%), berries (+4.8%), mango (+1.7%), walnut (+0.8%) and pineapple (+0.5%) was observed.
Vegetables
The value of Mexican vegetable exports stood at $5,604 million, representing a growth of +6.3%, while the volume amounted to 669,200 tonnes, with an increase of +4.6%.
Among the outstanding vegetables with an increase in traded volume were: broccoli (+36%), cauliflower (+22.2%), courgette (+17.8%), onion (+15.9%), melon (+15.6%), watermelon (+7.1%), cucumber (+4%), green tomato (+1.8%), red tomato (+1%), chillies (+0.9%) and carrot (+0.1%).
Vegetables that increased in value include: cauliflower (+45%), broccoli (+38.1%), courgette (+25.5%), melon (+24.4%), carrot (+18.3%), onion and cucumber (+10.7%), green tomato (+10.3%), chillies (+7.3%), lettuce (+3.1%) and red tomato (+2.1%).
