Since its proposal in 2022, the draft regulation aimed at halving the use of pesticides in the European Union by 2030 has given rise to much debate.
Addressing the European Parliament, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, announced that the proposed regulation on the use of pesticides has been withdrawn.
She explained that the legislative proposal had been rejected by the European Parliament and that no progress had been made at the level of the European Council (the Member States). Specifying that it will propose to the College of Commissioners that the proposal be withdrawn.
However, analysts believe that a new regulatory proposal could come back after the European elections in June 2024.
