Sultana, a premium blackberry with excellent shelf life and low regression
Produce Lovers is pleased to announce the acquisition of the rights for Sultana; a premium blackberry variety developed at the Planasa experimental farm located in Cartaya, Spain.
According to the evidence in experimental farms in Mexico, this variety produces a fruit of good size with an average weight of 10 grams per berry, average brix degrees of 11, it has an excellent shelf life and low regression.
The season for their production in Mexico is from mid-September through the end of May and according to their production technique (soil or hydroponic) they have different yields and production peaks.
Produce Lovers will carry out a small test in both production techniques in the state of Jalisco. They hope to have positive results soon so they can rapidly expand and have a commercial offer in the 2021-2022 season.
According to Gerardo López, Commercial VP of Produce Lovers, “Tuppi was a goog blackberry in its time, but we seek to be at the forefront of varieties in order to always offer a better experience to the final consumer”.
