This 2023-24 season was promising, with production and export levels expected to be higher than the previous season. But concerns remain about the disruption in the Red Sea region.
According to local media reports, the Indian grape season has got off to a strong start, with the harvest starting a fortnight ahead of schedule. Volumes are expected to be 20% up on the previous season.
Production is up and demand is strong from Europe, the main market for Indian grapes.
Concerns persist about disruptions in the Red Sea region. Attacks on ships are forcing shipping companies to change routes, resulting in longer lead times (41 days via the Cape of Good Hope compared with 21 days via the Red Sea and the Suez Canal).
