Despite challenges due to heavy rains during the second half of 2023, apple production in Brazil reached approximately one million tonnes that year, says the president of the Brazilian Association of Apple Producers (MAPA), Pierre Nicolas Pérès. Despite challenges due to heavy rains during the second half of 2023, apple production in Brazil reached approximately one million tonnes that year, says the president of the Brazilian Association of Apple Producers (MAPA), Pierre Nicolas Pérès. He also stresses the importance of waiting for more data to assess the actual volume.
Despite initial concerns about the floods, the effects did not turn out to be as disastrous as feared. This, in fact, contributed to balancing supply in the domestic market and ensuring fair prices for producers. Globally, Brazilian companies are experiencing competitive advantages compared to their European and Chinese rivals.
As for the international situation, Pérès noted that European production was down slightly by 4% compared to the previous year. He mentioned reports of a small drop in Chinese production, noting that due to its large share of world production, even a small decline could match Brazil's total production.
The association's projection suggests that Brazilian apple exports will range between 35,000 and 45,000 tonnes this year, depending on factors such as the exchange rate and the proper development of the crop during the summer.
