The company expects to resume export volumes with a focus on quality for key markets such as Mexico and Japan.
Gabriel Noboa Olazábal, the director of the Peruvian Table Grape Producers Association (Provid), anticipates a recovery in table grape production volumes in Peru next season.
During the 2023-2024 season, Peru exported about 62.7 million boxes of 8.2 kg grapes, but next season is expected to return to the level of 71.4 million boxes reached in 2022-2023, thanks to a recovery in the northern part of the country.
Noboa stressed the importance of properly managing markets to avoid saturation and the shipment of low quality fruit. He stressed that markets such as Mexico and Asia, especially Japan, offer great opportunities, but require a careful approach to ensure quality. The supply of table grapes in Peru is diverse, with leading varieties such as Sweet Globe and Autumn Crisp in green grapes, and Allison and Sweet Celebration in red grapes.
Noboa urged exporters to improve shipments to avoid rejections, which have affected the confidence of Japanese customers, who have opted to redirect their orders to Chile.
