Record of sales for Grenoble walnuts
A record year for Grenoble walnuts, Controlled Denomination of Origin since 1938.
The ICSI (Interprofessional Committee of Grenoble walnuts) reported that in 2012 sales of nuts have reached the record figure of 10,897 tons. Representing an increase in sales of 6.8% compared to 2011, exports increased by 3.4% to 6,865 tons. Production increased by 2.5% to 13,482 tons in 2012.
France is the first market Grenoble walnuts, with 4 032 tonnes, followed by Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Spain. The ICSI said that the current problem is not a deficit of business opportunities but rather a lack of volume to meet the demand.
