U.S. fruits and nuts will enter the Chinese market without retaliatory tariffs under the new agreement.
China and the United States agreed to suspend certain tariff and port-related measures for one year following a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump in Busan on October 30.
According to China’s Ministry of Commerce, the United States will halt the application of Section 301 measures affecting China’s maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding sectors, while China will suspend its retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods.
The decision reverses the escalation that began in March 2025, when the United States increased tariffs on Chinese products from 10% to 20%, prompting China to impose additional duties on a range of U.S. agricultural and food products. Under the new agreement, China will lift these surcharges and open its market to U.S. agricultural exports. The commitments also include cooperation to reduce shipments of fentanyl-related substances to the United States and the easing of export controls on critical minerals and semiconductors.
As part of the arrangement, U.S. agricultural goods such as cherries, apples, citrus, blueberries, avocados, table grapes, pears, strawberries, peaches, and various nuts will be allowed into China without retaliatory tariffs.
