Double record for the port of Antwerp

 

 

 

Excellent results for 2016 for the port of Antwerp, whose total freight volume reached 214 million tonnes, an increase of 2.7% year-on-year. For the first time in its history, the port of Antwerp has exceeded 10 million TEU with containerized traffic of 10,037,318 TEU (TEU, equivalent units 20 feet).

 

 

 

The container sector experienced strong growth in tons and in the number of containers. In terms of TEUs, the number of containers handled last year increased by 4.0%, while in terms of tonnage, the figure was over 4.1%.

 

 

 

These positive results demonstrate that Antwerp has expanded its market share compared to its competitors in the Hamburg-Le Havre range. Also improving its position in the Far East market, at the expense of its competitors Rotterdam and Hamburg.
