According to the 1st estimates of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Indian production of fruits and vegetables will increase in volume. This suggests lower prices for certain products such as onions.
In India the Ministry of Agriculture has announced its estimates for 2020-21 agricultural production. Cereal production is expected to reach a new record of 303.34 million tonnes (297.5 million tonnes in 2019-20), vegetable production is expected to reach 193.63 million tonnes (188.91 million tonnes in 2019- 20), fruit production is expected to reach 103.23 million tonnes (102.03 million tonnes in 2019-20).
According to ministerial estimates, for 2020-21 potato production is expected to reach 53.11 million tonnes (48.56 million tonnes in 2019-20), onion production is expected to reach 26.29 million tonnes ( 26.09 million tonnes in 2019-20. On the other hand, tomato production is forecast to decrease slightly with 20.148 million tonnes (21.173 million tonnes in 2019-20).
Regarding fruits, banana production is expected to reach 33.72 million tonnes (32.5 million tonnes in 2019-2020).
