HaciendasBio ensures markets´ supply of sustainable and healthy foods
The effects of COVID-19 are entailing changes in consumption patterns worldwide. In fact, consultants such as Kantar or Ecovia Intelligence stand out in their latest reports that this pandemic is causing an increase in the demand for organic and sustainable products, particularly for fresh fruits and vegetables. In addition, they ping out that consumers are increasingly concerned about eating a healthy diet.
Being sensitive to the needs of the market and with the mission of serving consumers, HaciendasBio, one of the leading producer of organic fruit and vegetables in Spain and one of the leader in exports to Europe-, strengthens its efforts to guarantee the supply of sustainable, healthy and seasonal products to markets where it operates, (Germany, Switzerland and France stand out, amongst others).
Since the Government of Spain decreed the lockdown, its weekly expedition of organic fruit and vegetables has reached an average of 300,000 kilos. it has seen an increase in its shipments year-over-year (particularly at Easter), keeps its firm commitment to society, performing its activity despite current difficulties, and ensuring the supply of nutritious and healthy food to their customer’s homes.
Currently, more than 1,000 employees work in the farms in Spain. Thanks to them and their daily effort, the company guarantees fresh supply in the next months and ensures the normal growing of crops such as stonefruit, melons, watermelons, grapes or apples. Continuous spring rains have made more difficult the regular and essential agricultural works, but in spite of it, HaciendasBio guarantees the upcoming harvesting season is being carried out normally.
“We feel very grateful for the effort, commitment, responsibility, solidarity, flexibility, adaptability in times of crisis, courage, and the absolute dedication that the HaciendasBio staff, -especially the employees who perform their role in the fields-, are showing in these hard times. Not only are they working to ensure healthy and sustainable food for consumers, but they are working intensively so that future campaigns are not affected. In addition to the collection and preparation in the warehouse, they are developing other tasks such as planting, fruit thinning, soil treatment or tree pruning, which are essential at this time so the consumer can find fruit and organic vegetables in the coming months”, says Paco Casallo, CEO of HaciendasBio.
Strengthening internal protocols to ensure production
To minimize possible risks for workers, customers and supplier’s health, HaciendasBio is carrying out strict hygiene, health and safety protocols following the recommendations issued by the Ministry of Health and the WHO.
These strict protocols reinforce the standards of prevention and protection of workers by providing protective equipment and disinfecting also external packaging. The strict regulacions are complemented by labour awareness campaigns and personal training. Finally, HaciendasBio reminds daily the safety protocols to workers, as well as the generic preventive measures to be taken. In all its facilities it provides the essential material to carry out its functions, as well as gels and disinfectant materials.
