The Chilean Fresh Fruit Exporters Association: “Asia will be one of our major export markets”

In Chile the 2017-2018 season ended with a total exports of fresh fruit of 2,776,903 tons (6.2% growth compared to the campaign 2016-2017). 625,453 tons of this amount went to Asia, reflecting an increase of 30.4%, the highest experienced during the season. China keeps 61.6% of the total export of fresh fruits to Asia.

In order to continue strengthening its positioning and presence in Asia, the Chilean export fruit industry participated in the Asia Fruit Logistics 2018 in Hong Kong. “Chile is the largest exporter of plums, cherries and blueberries in the world. Every single day more than 85 million consumers worldwide enjoy a piece of Chilean fruit,” – explains Marketing Director of ASOEX for Asia and Europe Charif Christian Carvajal. 

Main markets today for Chilean fruits are: USA, Europe, Asia and Latin America. Fruits are available from January to December.

The Chilean pavilion, of 125 square meters, offered special sectors for meetings between Chilean companies and importers, distributors and retailers.

“We are here promoting our fresh fruit exports. More than 50 companies from Chile came to show what we can offer. Taking in to account latest statistics, this year we have exported to Asia around 30% of all our volume, absolutely in the mid to long-term Asia will be one of our major export markets,” - ends Mr. Carvajal. 

The Chilean Fresh Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX) is a non-profit trade association representing the exporters of fruits and vegetables from Chile.
Membership base consists of exporters who have their own fruit, as well as traders of fruit from third parties. Together, they represent 96% of all fresh fruit exported from Chile.
