Last week, the Georgian Ministry of Economy announced the export of 500 tons of blueberries to the European Union and the United Kingdom under the Lead Generation Program. This initiative is designed to facilitate connections between local producers and international buyers, thus expanding avenues for market expansion. Some of the blueberries have already reached their destination markets, according to a Georgian media outlet.
The program is being implemented in collaboration between Enterprise Georgia, the U.S. Agency for International Development's Agriculture Program and the Rural Development Agency of the Georgian Ministry of Agriculture.
Mikheil Khidureli, executive director of Enterprise Georgia (a public agency responsible for export and investment promotion in Georgia's key economic sectors) highlighted the export of an unprecedented volume of blueberries through this program. He noted that they encourage Georgians interested in exporting their products to participate in the program, as "this represents a great opportunity to find a strategic partner and establish a favorable contract." Khidureli stated that, with these types of specific engagements, "we can have a significant impact on the country's export statistics."
The executive concluded by saying that "future initiatives will aim to connect potential buyers with Georgian producers in various sectors, including textiles, packaging materials and toys."
