According to the new trade agreement in force between China and the United States, American blueberries now have access to the Chinese market.
In China, the General Administration of Customs announced last week that fresh blueberries are allowed to enter the market.
For American blueberry producers, this authorization is a major breakthrough. American blueberries are already exported to Canada, Japan, Singapore, the Philippines and South Korea. But the growth of the Chinese middle class represents enormous potential for increased sales.
Earlier this year, China and the United States signed phase 1 of a new trade agreement. In this agreement, product import targets are set. Since the entry into force of the agreement, American nectarines and avocados have gained access to the Chinese market.
