Melons: the offer is still lower

The French melon production is still lower than expected returns.
Production areas falling (13 600 hectares for the 2014 campaign is -2%), cool nights in spring which slowed the growth, the level of supply is lower by at least 25% of the demand, according to Interprofession of melon.
Total production is estimated at 275 700 tons, according to forecasts of Agreste, the Ministry of Agriculture. Increase production compared to the previous year but down compared to the average of the last 5 years.
The peak of production is expected after July 14 with the arrival on the market of melons from Southwest and Midwest, which represents the half of the French production.
