Almeria, 1st exporting area

The province of Almeria is the 1st in Spain for exports of vegetables.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the province exported 261,973 tons of vegetables in January 2013. In terms of volume, it is 12.2% more than in January 2012, while the increase in turnover is 16.6%.
Exports in the area of Almeria accounted for 47.6% of Spanish vegetables shipped in January 2013. Almeria is far ahead of its main competitors, Murcia (22.5%) and Alicante (7%).
On top of these imports there are: tomato (25%), pepper (23.1%) and cucumber (16.1%). The main destinations of the products of the area are Germany (30.8%), the Netherlands (14.5%), France (13.6%) and the UK (11.4%).
