While farmers are optimistic, they remain cautious as falling prices may affect their final profits.
Carrot harvesting is in full swing in Manda Upazila, Bangladesh, and farmers are seeing a promising yield this season.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), the good harvest is due to favorable weather, a lack of prolonged cold spells, and the use of high-quality seeds.
Manda has become the top carrot-growing area in the district, drawing more farmers because growing carrots requires less labor, costs less, and offers solid profits.
This year, carrots have been planted on 600 bighas (approximately 80 hectares), with the main farming villages being Bilkarilya, Kusumba, and Badalghata.
Farmers expect to produce about 2.7 million kilograms of carrots from these 600 bighas, with an estimated market value of around $320,000.
Abul Kalam Azad, deputy director of the DAE, mentioned that the region’s overall carrot sales, including other farms and stock from previous harvests, could reach roughly $460,000 this season thanks to the favorable growing conditions.
Despite the good harvest, farmers remain cautious, as carrot prices have been dropping and could reduce their earnings.
