The contact group for peaches, nectarines and apricots from France, Italy, Portugal and Spain is meeting today, 7 May, in Rimini, Italy, as part of the annual meetings of the Joint Committee for Fruit and Vegetables.
Key topics on the agenda include production forecasts for this season in each country, as well as progress on joint work on plant health.
This group, made up of the stone fruit sector associations of the four countries and representatives of the administration, will also evaluate the results of the previous season. The development of both domestic consumption and exports of peaches and nectarines will be discussed.
In addition, the group will discuss progress in joint efforts in the phytosanitary field. The gradual reduction in the use of plant protection products in stone fruit production in the European Union represents one of the main challenges, a problem that also affects most fruit and vegetable crops.
