In the Netherlands, greenhouse acreage has decreased

After an increase in 2022, the area under glass in 2023 fell short of the total recorded for 2020. 

 

A recent CBS (Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek) study, compiling data from the agricultural census, shows that greenhouse horticulture areas in 2023 totalled 10,150 hectares.

 

This represents a variation of -4.61% on the 10,640 hectares recorded in 2022. Previously, these areas reached 10,550 hectares in 2021; 10,080 hectares in 2020; 9,210 hectares in 2015; and 10,520 hactares in 2000.

 

CBS specifies that greenhouse horticulture is cultivation in glass- or plastic-covered greenhouses, or in plastic tunnels.
