For the 2023 season, Peru plans to export 624,000 tons of Hass avocados, which represents a positive variation of 12.5% compared to the 554,498 tons shipped in 2022.
According to data from the Association of Hass Avocado Producers of Peru (ProHass), the projection for this campaign is almost double what was exported in 2018 (338,549 tons).
The year 2023 is different from previous years, due to little avocado production in Spain, Israel and South Africa, which comes out in the first two months of the year. For this reason, a market shortage is expected, which, in turn, would favor Peruvian exporters.
Regarding destinations, ProHass hopes to not be so focused on supplies to Europe and to send more fruit to Asia and the United States.
Shipments to Chile would also increase compared to 2022 (56,000 tons), where there was a great local production, and Peruvian shipments experienced a decrease of almost 10% compared to the previous year. In 2023, Chile would receive at least 10% of total Peruvian avocado exports (62,400 tons).
