Ecuador focusing Hass avocado on the UK

Even though Ecuador has been widely known for banana and tropical fruits, avocado will be a promising fruit for next season. During the next five years, Corpoaguacate, expects to produce 5.000 tons of Hass avocado, popular among Europeans.

United Kingdom is the most interested country, expected to supply their need from October to July.

The GlobalGAP certification is required for the exportation to be running. There are several people already working on this certification, which is expected to be completed by mid-2019. This will be a start for Ecuador, who now relays under the shadow of Peru and Colombia, but will certainly could supply 200 tons to the United Kingdom once the certification is completed.

In the near future, the total production of Hass avocado could rise up to 800-1000 tons. Until now, this avocado has only been exported to Spain, the Netherlands, France, and Hong Kong.
