Decline in apples exports
FJ
If in 2014, apples have climbed the podium of Chilean exports , even exceeding table grapes , that is not the case in 2015.
PASO ( Oficina de Estudios y Políticas Agrarias ) in its latest report on the agricultural trade balance , confirmed the decline in apples exports. For the 1st half of 2015 only 411 000 tonnes of apples were shipped , a decrease of 21.7 % from the 525,000 tons exported between January and June 2014 .
This decline would be the consequences of several factors: adverse weather conditions , replacing current varieties , a decline in profitability that pushed producers to turn to other crops , a decline in international demand for Chilean apples .
